THE DOGGIE ADDITION
PRIVACY POLICY
Last updated: 21 October 2026
1. Who we are
The Doggie Addition is a UK-based dog information and resource website operated by a sole trader.
Our website, https://thedoggieaddition.com, provides guidance, educational articles, practical resources, interactive tools and product information to help people make informed decisions about caring for dogs.
For the purposes of UK data protection law, the person responsible for handling personal information is:
Business name: The Doggie Addition
Data controller: Kay Doyle, sole trader, trading as The Doggie Addition
Business address:
17 Hazelton Close
Gloucester
GL4 6WD
United Kingdom
Email: TheDoggieAddition@outlook.com
You can contact us at this email address with questions about this Privacy Policy or how we handle personal information.
2. What personal information we collect
The information we process depends on how you use our website.
Information you provide directly
If you contact us by email, we may receive your name, email address and any information you choose to include in your message.
We use this information to read, respond to and manage your enquiry.
We do not currently offer public user accounts, newsletter subscriptions, visitor uploads or a website contact form.
Information collected when you visit our website
Like most websites, our hosting service may process technical information when you visit, including:
Your IP address.
Browser and device information.
The pages or resources requested.
The date and time of requests.
Technical and security information associated with website access.
This information may be used to deliver the website, maintain its performance, investigate technical problems and protect it against misuse.
Our hosting provider is Namecheap (Stellar Plus shared hosting). As with most websites, it may process technical information such as IP address, browser and device details, the pages requested and timestamps, for the operation and security of the website.
3. Interactive tools
The Doggie Addition offers interactive tools designed to help visitors explore dog ownership, care and other practical questions.
Our current tools process the answers you select within your browser while you use them.
Your answers are not currently sent to our website server, saved in a visitor account or stored for later retrieval. They are normally lost when you leave or reload the tool.
If we introduce tools that save answers, collect contact details or transmit responses to another service, we will review and update this Privacy Policy before introducing those features.
Our interactive tools provide general information and decision support. They are not substitutes for professional veterinary, behavioural, legal or financial advice.
We have verified that our interactive tools process your answers only in your browser while you use them. They do not transmit your answers to us, store them on our servers or pass them to any third-party service. This applies to the tools currently live on the website. If we later introduce tools that do save, collect or transmit answers, we will update this policy before doing so.
4. Cookies and similar technologies
Our website uses WordPress and Complianz, a consent-management tool.
Cookies or similar technologies may be used for essential website functions, security and remembering visitors’ privacy preferences.
We also intend to use Google Analytics 4 to understand how visitors use our website.
Google Analytics is configured, but the current consent setup prevents it from operating for ordinary visitors before the required consent has been obtained. The live consent process has not yet been completed or activated.
Before enabling analytics, we will complete our consent arrangements and provide visitors with appropriate choices about non-essential cookies.
Once the setup is complete, further details about cookies, their purposes and how to manage preferences will be available in our Cookie Policy.
5. Google Analytics
We plan to use Google Analytics 4 (GA4), a service provided by Google, to help us understand how visitors use our website and identify where we can improve our content.
When enabled, and where the required consent has been given, Google Analytics may process information about website visits, pages viewed, interactions and technical details relating to browsers and devices.
We do not intentionally use Google Analytics to collect visitors’ names or email addresses.
Our GA4 event and user-level data-retention settings are configured to two months. These settings do not necessarily determine how long all aggregated reporting information is retained.
These 2-month retention settings are separate from the lifetimes of our analytics browser cookies (for example, the _ga and _ga_* cookies), which are managed through the browser and set out in our Cookie Policy.
We will only enable non-essential analytics in accordance with the applicable consent requirements. Visitors will be able to manage their cookie preferences through the website’s consent controls.
6. Affiliate links and external websites
Some of our articles and Product Guides may contain affiliate links in the future.
If you follow an affiliate link, you may be directed to an external retailer or service provider. That provider may collect information or use cookies under its own privacy policy.
Where affiliate links involve tracking technologies or personal information processing for which The Doggie Addition is responsible, we will explain the relevant arrangements and obtain consent where required.
We do not currently sell products directly through our website or collect customers’ payment-card details.
Our recommendations are intended to prioritise usefulness to visitors rather than affiliate commissions.
7. Why we process personal information
We process personal information only where we have an appropriate lawful basis under UK data protection law.
For ordinary website enquiries and business correspondence, we use information supplied to us to respond, manage communications and administer The Doggie Addition. We generally rely on our legitimate interests in managing these activities, subject to ensuring those interests do not override individuals’ rights and freedoms.
For website operation and security, technical information may be processed to maintain and protect the website. Our proposed lawful basis is legitimate interests.
For optional Google Analytics, we seek visitors’ consent before enabling Statistics cookies and associated analytics processing.
We may also process information where necessary to comply with applicable legal obligations.
We do not currently operate a visitor newsletter or promotional mailing list.
Depending on the activity, this may include:
Legitimate interests: To respond to enquiries, maintain website security, prevent misuse and operate and improve our website, where these interests are not overridden by individuals’ rights.
Consent: For non-essential analytics cookies or similar technologies where consent is required.
Legal obligations: Where we must retain or disclose information to comply with applicable law.
You can withdraw consent for consent-based processing. Withdrawal does not affect processing that was lawful before consent was withdrawn.
8. Who may receive personal information
We may use third-party providers to help operate our website and business, including:
Namecheap, our website hosting provider.
Microsoft Outlook, used for business email.
Google Analytics, once properly activated and consented to where required.
Complianz, which helps manage website cookie information and consent.
These services have different roles, and not every provider necessarily receives personal information from every visitor.
We do not sell visitors’ personal information.
9. International data transfers
Some service providers may process or store personal information outside the United Kingdom.
Where international transfers take place, appropriate arrangements must be in place to meet applicable UK data-protection requirements. These may include recognised adequacy arrangements or other legally recognised safeguards, depending on the provider and circumstances.
10. How long we keep information
We aim to keep personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose for which it was collected, or where we have a legal obligation to retain it.
Different categories of information may have different retention periods.
Business emails and correspondence
We normally retain ordinary enquiries and related correspondence for 12 months after the last meaningful correspondence.
We may retain information for longer where reasonably necessary to manage an ongoing matter, maintain relevant business records, resolve a dispute or comply with a legal obligation.
We periodically review information and delete it when it is no longer needed.
Website hosting and security logs
Our hosting provider may retain technical access and security information for operational and security purposes.
Retention of these logs is determined by our hosting provider (Namecheap, Stellar Plus shared hosting) in line with its standard hosting arrangements and applicable law.
Cookie consent information
Complianz manages visitors’ cookie preferences through the website’s consent arrangements.
Google Analytics
The GA4 event and user-level data-retention settings are both configured to 2 months.
These settings apply to the relevant categories of GA4 data and do not necessarily determine the retention of all aggregated reporting information.
Analytics processing will be subject to the required consent arrangements.
11. Keeping information secure
We take reasonable steps to protect information handled through our website and business systems.
Our website uses HTTPS to protect information transmitted between visitors’ browsers and the website.
However, no internet service or method of electronic communication can be guaranteed completely secure.
12. Your data protection rights
Under UK data protection law, you may have the right to:
Request access to personal information we hold about you.
Ask us to correct inaccurate information.
Request deletion of information in certain circumstances.
Ask us to restrict certain processing.
Object to processing based on legitimate interests.
Request data portability where applicable.
Withdraw consent where processing relies on consent.
These rights are subject to applicable legal conditions and exceptions.
To exercise your rights, email TheDoggieAddition@outlook.com.
You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), the UK’s data protection regulator.

13. Children’s privacy
Our website provides general dog-related information and is not designed to collect personal information directly from children.
We do not knowingly operate a service requiring children to register or submit personal information.
If you believe a child has provided personal information to us, please contact us so that we can review the situation.
14. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy when our website, services or legal obligations change.
For example, we may revise it if we introduce a newsletter, contact form, new analytics services, additional affiliate technologies or interactive tools that retain visitor information.
The latest version will be available on this page, with its updated date shown at the top.
